World's biggest bounce house makes three-day stop in Colorado Springs
One night after working behind the scenes at one of his music festivals, Cameron Craig and his colleagues snuck into a small bounce house that families had enjoyed earlier in the day.
"We had a bounce around for some fun while no one was looking," said Crowe, co-founder of Big Bounce America. "We thought, 'Everyone's enjoying it. Why don't we make one big enough to host kids as well as adults?'"
The world's largest bounce house was created, clocking in at more than 10,000 square feet. The world's second-biggest is right under 6,000 square feet. The springy spectacle will be in town Friday through Sunday at El Pomar Youth Sports Complex.
For 60 minutes, people of all ages can play in the giant Candyland board game-colored space with a DJ platform and disco lights at its center. Throughout the hour, the DJ will hold contests, including a slam-dunk contest on six inflatable basketball hoops, obstacle course and dance competition for prizes.
A big slide into a foam ball pit, confetti blasts and beach balls will keep the energy up.
"It's a full-on hour," Crowe said, "and you leave exhausted."
It's not only one hour and you're done, though. Visitors can stay all day and indulge in the free activities outside the bounce house: sack, wheelbarrow and three-legged races, lawn darts, corn hole, hula hooping competitions, volleyball and basketball and a silent disco, where attendees don headphones to hear the music.
Bounce house sessions take place throughout the day and are designated either as family, for kids 15 and younger and accompanying adults, or junior, for kids 7 and younger and accompanying adults. One adult-only session is on Sunday.
"It's so much fun," Crowe said. "It's a chance to let your hair down and act like you did when you were children. When they see the size of this one, kids' eyes just open up. It's impressive to just stand and look at it."
