The following is a timeline listing some of the major events in Daniel Nations' life in recent years.

Nations is being held in Teller County on a weapons violation; he also is suspected in a number of crimes in El Paso County related to hatchet threats on Mount Herman Road. He also has been investigated in the September murder of cyclist Tim Watkins, and in the double murder of Liberty German and Abigail Williams. He has not been charged in connection with either death.

2002

- November 23: Daniel Nations' mother, Rebecca Smith, was stabbed to death by her brother. Her body was dragged into the woods and covered by leaves. Daniel, then 17, was living with her, according to court records.

2007

- June 26: Daniel Nations is convicted of indecent exposure in Beaufort, South Carolina. He is required to register on the Indiana Sex and Violent Offender Registry for his lifetime.

2015

- March 21: Daniel Nations is arrested in Greenwood, Ind., on suspicion of possession of marijuana, driving with improper headlights and driving while suspended. He enters pretrial diversion program and attends all related compliance hearings until June 14, 2017, when he misses his hearing and the court orders a warrant for his arrest.

- July 24: 2015: Daniel Nations is arrested after he reportedly was caught peeping and pleasuring himself in the stall of a women's restroom at a Rickers gas station in Bartholomew County, Ind. He posts bail.

- Nov. 19: Daniel Nations fails to appear for court related to his public indecency charge. A warrant is issued for his arrest. (He later pleads guilty to the charge in an agreement; his one-year jail sentence is suspended.)

- December 9: Daniel Nations is arrested on suspicion of domestic battery in the presence of a child, a felony, related to punching his wife, Katelyn Nations, and breaking her nose. He pleads guilty in March 2016 and serves 99 days in jail.

2016

- August 3: Daniel Nations is caught driving while suspended in Hendricks County, Ind. He pleads guilty and is sentenced to pay $235 in fines and fees.

- November 16: Daniel Nations is pulled over for a lane-change violation in Marion County by Indiana State Police. He's arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and driving without a license. He attends all court hearings until May 18, a warrant is issued for his arrest.

2017

- Jan. 31: Daniel Nations checks in with law enforcement, per his requirement to register as a sex offender.

- Feb. 7: Daniel Nations checks in with law enforcement, per his requirement to register as a sex offender.

- Feb. 13: Delphi, Ind., teens Liberty German, 14, and Abigail Williams, 13, were dropped off near the Monon High Bridge, an abandoned rail bridge over Deer Creek. They did not show up at their arranged pickup time and were considered missing.

- Feb. 14: The bodies of Liberty German, 14, and Abigail Williams, 13, were discovered in a wooded area near the Delphi Historic Trail, approximately half a mile upstream from the Monon High Bridge.

- February 14: Daniel Nations checks in with law enforcement, per his requirement to register as a sex offender.

- Feb. 15: Indiana law enforcement releases two photographs of a person seen on the Delphi Historic Trail around the same time at the missing teens. The photograph appears to depict a white male wearing blue jeans, a blue coat/jacket, and a hoodie.

- February 21: Daniel Nations checks in with law enforcement, per his requirement to register as a sex offender.

- February 22: Indiana State Police release an audio clip they said was taken from Liberty German's cell phone on the day the girls were murdered. The clip features a man's voice ordering the teens "down the hill."

- Feb. 24-28: Daniel Nations is incarcerated on for contempt of court after he failed to appear for one of his eviction resolution cases, according to the Morgan County Jail.

- March 7: Daniel Nations checks in with law enforcement, per his requirement to register as a sex offender.

- March 14: Daniel Nations checks in with law enforcement, per his requirement to register as a sex offender.

- March 21: Daniel Nations checks in with law enforcement, per his requirement to register as a sex offender.

- April 4: Daniel Nations checks in with law enforcement, per his requirement to register as a sex offender.

- April 12: Daniel Nations registers his new address as a Greenwood motel in Indiana.

- April 25: Daniel Nations is arrested by police in Greenwood on suspicion of driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana. He fails to appear for court in this case on July 19.

- May 12: Daniel Nations checks out of the Greenwood motel where he had previously been living, according to court records.

- July 17: Indiana State Police release a composite sketch of a suspect in the Delphi homicides.

- July 18: Investigation begins into Daniel Nations' whereabouts after he failed to register his new address upon checking out of his motel on May 12. Nations is required to register as part of his sex offender status. A warrant is issued for his arrest.

- August 24-25: The El Paso County Sheriff's Office receives complaints about menacing in the Mount Herman area, involving a man who was threatening bicyclists with a hatchet. Witnesses say the culprit was driving a red Chevrolet compact sedan with Indiana license plates.

- September 25: Daniel Nations is arrested on a weapons violation in Teller County after Woodland Park police stop his vehicle, which they said had a broken taillight and matched the description of a vehicle involved in menacing weeks earlier. Police found a hatchet and a .22 caliber rifled in the car.

- September 26: Daniel Nations is accused of failing to register as a sex offender in Johnson County, Indiana, where he was last known to be living in May.

- September 28: The El Paso County Sheriff's Office announces arrest charges against Daniel Nations on suspicion of felony menacing and reckless endangerment stemming from an Aug. 23 event related to the Mount Herman Road hatchet threats, according to court records. Explaining documents are sealed.

- September 29: Indiana State Police receive a tip about Daniel Nations' resemblance to a composite sketch of a man wanted in the Delphi, Indiana, murders, and send detectives to El Paso County to interview him.

- October 3: Indiana State Police say they cannot "specifically include or exclude Daniel Nations as a suspect in the Delphi homicides."

- October 6: The El Paso County Sheriff's Office announces arrest charges against Daniel Nations on suspicion of attempted trespassing into a vehicle, attempted assault and criminal mischief stemming from a Sept. 9 event, according to court records. Explaining documents are sealed.

- October 10: The El Paso County Sheriff's Office announces arrest charges against Daniel Nations on suspicion of failing to register as a sex offender.

- October 16: Daniel Nations has a first appearance in Teller County court, where the judge listed off the seven arrest charges against him in Teller and El Paso County and explained his combined $15,000 bonds.

- October 25: Daniel Nations is scheduled for a first appearance in El Paso County court.
