Another late-night start assigned to Air Force football
Good news, bad news for Air Force fans.
OK, mostly bad news.
The football team’s season finale at Falcon Stadium against Utah State on Nov. 25 has been assigned an 8:15 p.m. start time.
That’s the bad news.
The good news is that ESPN2 will carry the game, a sign that there is still interest in a team that has lost two straight and six of its last nine.
This start time – announced on Monday morning – means Air Force (4-6, 2-3 Mountain West) will close the season with three consecutive 8:15 p.m. starts. The Falcons kicked off at 8:26 p.m. against Wyoming on Saturday, are slated for that time slot on Saturday at Boise State and will now close at that time on the Saturday after Thanksgiving against the Aggies (5-5, 3-3).
The Mountain West’s television payout structure no longer gives bonuses for games broadcast on ESPN2. As recently as last year, this would have brought a $500,000 bonus payment.
Air Force drew an announced crowd of about 24,000 Saturday night against Wyoming, which beat the Falcons 28-14.
