Take 10: Grant Sabin and the Juke Joint Highball and their Hill Country Blues
We're heading into southern blues for an exclusive Take 10 live performance at noon Friday on our Gazette News Facebook page. Grant Sabin and the Juke Joint Highball will perform Hill Country Blues, a style from the northern Mississippi hill country.
Sabin said he first heard this genre from John-Alex Mason, who was playing in the Colorado Springs area in the late '90s. In 2003, Sabin said, he started getting musical education from Mason.
Mason died about six years ago, but Sabin wanted to continue the Hill Country Blues legacy in Colorado Springs.
"It was given to me at an early age from John-Alex," he said. "I hope that 100 years from now, people will be jamming to Hill Country Blues."
When you listen to the music, Sabin said, make sure you remember this about his group: "It's a band that you go to see to have too much of a good time. You are going to be dancing."
He will be joined on his Take 10 performance by bass and guitar player Joe Johnson.
Circle noon Friday on your schedule for our live Take 10 performance with the Hill Country Blues sound of Grant Sabin and the Juke Joint Highball.
