Man accused of molesting child cared for homeless mother and her son
A homeless mother told police she had little choice but to move in with the man who was later arrested for sexually assaulting her 8-year-old son over two years.
Colorado Springs police arrested Raymond Demond Brown, 34, in February after the boy said he had been raped by Brown over a period of two years. The police investigation indicates Brown may have assaulted other children as well.
Brown was listed as the 8-year-old's father on the birth certificate, but the boy's mother said he was not the natural father, according to Brown's arrest affidavit. She told police she was homeless and Brown had requested to be named on the birth certificate for tax purposes. Brown agreed to give the pair a place to stay and offered to help pay for day care and clothing, the boy's mother told police.
In November, Brown tried to get custody of the boy. Later that month, the boy told his mom what was happening and she called police. The boy told police Brown raped him "two or three times a week" over two years.
Brown was arrested in February and is being held in the El Paso County jail on $25,000 bond. He has been charged with seven counts of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust.
Police said Thursday that they have "identified several more potential victims" and said investigators were asking for other victims to come forward.
Anyone with information about Brown's activities is asked to call police at 444-7000.
