Identification released for Colorado Springs man killed by 19-year-old
A man reportedly shot and killed last week as he attacked his ex-wife has been identified as Joseph Lamoureux, 36, according to the El Paso County Coroner's Office.
A relative familiar with Lamoureux's rocky relationship with his ex-wife previously told The Gazette that Lamoureux was choking the woman when her 19-year-old son intervened. Police said the adult teen fired a single shot, killing Lamoureux.
The relative said Lamoureux was staying at his ex-wife's townhouse on Lexington Village Lane on March 16, when the two got into a fight about 3 a.m. The former couple had fought often leading up to their divorce a year ago, and the relative said he also had intervened in fights before.
Last week, the relative said the woman was being treated for bruising on her neck.
Colorado Springs police, Monday, confirmed they have not arrested the 19-year-old in the shooting. The shooting is being investigated as a case of self-defense, police previously said.
Police have not officially ruled the death a homicide, pending autopsy results from the coroner's office, but Lamoureux likely will be considered the city's ninth homicide this year. At this time last year, there were no homicides.
