Businesses in Colorado have a new partner in pursuing government contracts.
The state’s new Procurement Technical Assistance Center officially opens Monday in Colorado Springs. Dave Csintyan, president and CEO of the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, said the center’s staff and resources will give local companies a boost in finding and landing federal, state and local government contracts. Centers in other states help companies land $350 in contracts for every dollar they spend, he said.
“To use a technical term, it’s huge,” Csintyan joked. “This is a huge deal for the state and for our region.”
There are 93 procurement centers, called PTAC’s, around the country. Colorado had been one of just two states without a center.
Each of the centers has counselors experienced in government contracting that can help businesses identify opportunities and qualify for contracts, said Ric Denton, the Colorado PTAC’s interim director.
The Colorado PTAC has been operating since Sept. 15, and already has more than 30 clients, Denton said, but the ribbon cutting for the center was delayed until the arrival of the new director, Tom Elam.
