A 46-year-old man accused in a deadly shooting rampage in Black Forest pleaded not guilty Thursday to first-degree murder charges.

Kenneth Lankford is accused of fatally shooting is wife, Terry Lankford, 51, at a home at 6685 Burrows Road. He's also accused of killing Carol Fowler, 51, and wounding her husband Thomas, 52, at their home at 11725 Timberlane Court.

According to testimony at a preliminary hearing last month, Kenneth Lankford allegedly told sheriff's detectives that he fatally shot his wife as a mercy killing after a gun accidentally went off and injured her.

Lankford is due back in court in October.
